The Chalapathams are a Tamil Brahmin caste found in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. They are one of the thirty-three Scheduled Caste groups in India. The Chalapathams are a landowning community and are found mainly in the districts of Thanjavur, Madurai, and Cuddalore. The Chalapathams are also found in parts of the state of Kerala. They are traditional traders and are involved in agriculture, animal husbandry, and manufacturing. The Chalapathams are traditionally a vegetarian community and are known for their Thiruvarur silk sarees.
