The ChinnaMarkandans are a Tamil-speaking community who are believed to have migrated from the present-day ChinnaMarkandapuram region in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India during the early part of the nineteenth century. The ChinnaMarkandans are a relatively small community, numbering around 5,000 individuals. The ChinnaMarkandans are traditionally farmers, and are known for their traditional hand-woven textiles and beadwork.
